For their community service project, the Green Lake Junior High Student Council is collecting essential items for the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI. Items will be accepted May 16–20 at the Green Lake School office, Sassafras Coffee, Caestecker Public Library and Horicon Bank. Among the items sought are men’s and women’s T-shirts, denture cream, hair conditioner, hairbrushes, 100 or less piece puzzles, cans of coffee, and large print word searches.

Memorial Day is upon us, and that brings a change in the library schedule – we will be closed on Sunday and Monday, May 29-30, in observance of Memorial Day. We will open as usual Tuesday morning at 9:00.

This weekend also signals the unofficial start of the summer season, and to us that means it’s time to announce the 2022 summer reading program! This year we’re encouraging all readers and adventurers to Read Beyond the Beaten Path – and we have special programs and prizes planned for everyone. Book fans of all ages have an opportunity to read or listen to great books, enjoy special programs, get involved with crafts and other hands-on activities, and more. Keeping those reading skills sharp over the summer months is crucial to school success, which is why libraries make a big deal out of summer reading programs for kids. For those of us who haven’t been kids for a while, summer programs are great for trying something new, dipping into areas of interest, reconnecting with friends. Summer Reading officially starts June 13 and goes until the end of July. Plan now to join us, it’s going to be a great summer at the library.

A quick note on other upcoming fun at the library, as part of Green Lakes 175th Anniversary Celebration, the library will be open from 11 am-4 pm on Sunday, June 5. We will have some Green Lake historical displays up, library history scrapbooks available to flip through, a kid sized log cabin to explore, and hosting an hourly drawing for a free copy of Green Lake Memories II by Thomas Gnewuch. Our Thursday Movie Matinee two-week lineup includes King Richard on May 26th and Dog with Channing Tatum on June 2nd. With June upon us, that also means there’s another chance to join us for Roasts & Reads. Visit with us to sip on some coffee, talk about books you’ve read recently, recommend your favorites to the group, have books put on hold for you, and get to know a friendly group of people. The Friends of the Library will be having two book sales in the coming month: Wednesday, June 1 from 1-4 pm and Saturday, June 25 from 9 am – 1 pm.
