Even if you check the library’s website often, there’s more to explore: October’s featured free online database is Book Connections. It includes a cornucopia of choices for children and adults to find books, meet authors, play games, delve into book lists (in 104 different languages!), listen to full audio books, including the opportunity to hear authors pronounce and tell the stories of their names! You can even do book cover jigsaw puzzles on-screen! Choose a subject, then narrow to a title, choose how many pieces you’d like to work on – so much fun! This is not your childhood library service any more!
Fall is in full swing as the squirrels collect hickory nuts and hide them in my yard, reminding me it’s time to announce the library’s plans for upcoming events: Our Constant Reader Book Club (10/11 at 3 PM) is reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio. New Staff Pick titles include: The Sisters Brothers, and News of the World. Saturday, October 7th, 10 AM, we are hosting a project of Children’s Wisconsin to explore real life experiences with Foster Care, Adoption, and Kinship Care. Participants will hear practical information and have an opportunity to ask questions of the panel of experts. If you have an interest in becoming a foster parent, or are looking for support in your life, this may be just the event for you.
Friday October 13th is notoriously ominous, but we hope to change that with a free children’s pumpkin decorating event at 10 AM and an afternoon matinee feature: Hocus Pocus (popcorn included). Halloween falls on our Tuesday Play and Build, so we ask children (and their caregivers) to come ready to participate (in costume if it makes you happy) in fun activities and snacks. Mummy making may be part of the morning…..
