Caestecker Public Library

This week we’re celebrating all things Freeland Film Festival. The film festival is an amazing gathering of talented people, gripping stories, art and music, and informative discussions all held in Green Lake from September 12-14. The Caestecker Library is one of the venues, and we are looking forward to being part of this exciting event. Tickets and full festival details can be found at freeland.org/film-festival.html.

Here’s what’s happening at the library on Saturday, September 13th:

10:00-10:30am Artist Reception for our two gifted artists in the Hickory room. All are welcome to this free event to celebrate the works of Tom Eddy and Joanne Burne prior to the official start of the Festival events. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Caestecker Public Library.

Tom Eddy has shared his Freeland Floral Portraits which are comprised of framed 18 x 24-inch close-up and macrophotographs that blend botanical science and art. Tom’s photographs are for sale, and proceeds support the efforts of Freeland’s frontline work of protecting vulnerable people and wildlife from organized crime and corruption, while revitalizing ecosystems and communities for a more secure world.

Joanne Burne has shared her talented depictions of the Green Lake Conference center. The detailed scenes have been drawn in soft pastels, charcoal, and graphite. If you’re familiar with the Green Lake Conference Center, Joanne’s work will make you feel at home.

10:30am-3:00pm Kid friendly short films will take to the big screen in the Burr Oak room in the lower level of the library throughout the day. Pick up a film fest program at the library or view the full schedule via the Freeland Film Fest online. For films that are not recommended for kids, activities will be provided to enjoy.

12:00-3:00pm Visit the library’s side yard to enjoy some fresh air and locally crafted frozen treats from Chef Aaron of Bespoke Gatherings.

1:00-2:00pm Avery James (this summer’s GLA intern) will be in our side yard with hands-on activities for kids to learn about Green Lake, water quality and critters, and surrounding watershed area.

The library will be open for extended hours on Saturday; regular library service is available. Come spend time catching up on local news, piloting the Remembrance with the kids, chatting with friends and neighbors.
