As we head into the month of March, your local public library hasn’t yet decided whether to come in like a lion or a lamb. We want to ROAR about all the great events continuing and debuting this month, as well as the planning we’ve started for our summer reading program (“ROAR” is your hint!). But we keep getting shushed. Lambs we will be.
Our continuing events include
- Mahjong on Wednesdays at 1 pm. We’ve seen lots of new faces heading down the stairs, some just to watch and see if it’s for them, and some ready to dive in to the fun!
- Preschool storytime by the boat on Wednesdays at 10 am. Miss Leah serves up a weekly selection of books, songs, rhymes, and quirky humor for tots and caregivers alike.
- Constant Reader Book Club meets March 11 at 3 pm to discuss Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad.
- March’s Friends of the Library Book Sales will be Saturday, March 7 (9 am -1 pm) and Wednesday, March 18 (1-4 pm).
Debut events we can’t stop ROA- er, rather, meekly “Baaa”-ing about:
- Our 14th annual Seed Library seeds have been perfectly packaged by our local Heart Huggers group. If you’re ready to get growing, come find a few extras and try something new!
- When is it time for Facility Care? With Lisa ZImmerman, Dementia Care Specialist with the Green Lake County ADRC on Wednesday, March 11 from 10-11:30 am. To register, call 833-694-0192 or email lzimmerman@greenlakecountywi.gov.
- Cultivating Community: Growing Food Skills for Every Age Range and Garden with Foxhead Regenerative Agriculture on Saturday, March 14 at 10 am in the Hickory Room. Register here.
- Community Mending on Thursday, March 19 from 2-4 pm. Our expert menders will help patch up many kinds of fabric-related tribulations, from popped seams to purse straps.
- Exotic Pet Surrender with J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on Saturday, March 28 at 10 am. They will accept fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals, and exotic plants with no questions asked. There will also be animal ambassadors you can meet and learn about, and a photobooth where you can take your picture with a rescued pet!
Finally, we hope you can stop by the library to grab one of our new Dinner & a Story kits! Inside the bag you’ll find all the non-perishable items you’ll need to make a pizza, spaghetti, or chicken potpie supper (soon – sushi or pancakes too!) to tame the lion inside. There is also a free children’s book in each kit. Nothing needs to be returned and you don’t have to have a library card!
We hope to see you at the library soon! And if you need to roar because it’s just so awesome… we can find a spot for that too.
