Caestecker Public Library

Hello Friends,

Happy April! This is a month of celebration and gratitude. I will begin with gratitude and a special remembrance.

You may have heard that the library’s long-time library custodian, Norm Sonderman, passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. I am thankful for Norm’s thirteen years of hard work and good humor at the library. He is, and will continue to be, missed by many. At our March Friends of the Library Board meeting, we voted to join the Caestecker Library Board of Trustees in planting a tree in Norm’s honor. Look for it later this spring in the library’s front garden.

Thanks to everyone who rounded up their purchases at Crossroads Market the first half of March. Our Rooster Round-up total came to just under $900. We appreciate your efforts!

And now, on to the celebrating!

April 6-12 marks National Library Week, and you better believe we are celebrating it.. Monday, April 7, you are invited to join us out at Vines and Rushes from 4-8:00 PM for pizza, salads, and beverages. The Friends of the Caestecker Library are their Cause of the Mondays that night, which means 25% of food sales and all tips placed in their special “Cause” jar will come back to the Friends. The pizza is great, easily some of the best in the area. We’ll be there with an information table and some Friends merch for sale, too. Yummers and greatness, as my friend Vicki would say.

Wrapping up Library Week finds our next Besties event for young library friends. Saturday morning, April 12, will find us celebrating all things animals. Students in grades K-6 are invited to join us in front of the fireplace at 10:00 to talk about your favorite animals, animal books, animal themed snacks, and an opportunity to design your own critter.

Later in April brings National Volunteer Week, and we are hosting a Library Volunteer Appreciation tea on Tuesday, the 22nd, at 2:00 PM. We have many wonderful volunteers who serve on boards, run the library on Sunday afternoons, keep our inside and outdoor plants looking good, work the book sales, and support the library in many more ways. If you’re a library volunteer, please join us for light refreshments and good company.

There are still seeds left to kick-start your garden. The Friends are happy to support the seed library. And look for additional Experience Passes to check out in the coming weeks – we’re excited to sponsor a number of these as well.

There’s so much to do and see at our favorite place.

Hope to see you at the library soon,

Linda, President of the Friends of the Caestecker Public Library
