Visit the library on Tuesdays from 10 am-noon with your kiddos age newborn to six to PLAY! Our Burr Oak room in the lower level of the library is a wide-open space to burn off energy and explore. We have toys to develop large and fine motor skills along with color identification and shape sorting activities to allow children to learn the skills of early literacy, problem solving, sharing, and working within groups in a safe environment outside the home. Children practice decision-making skills, move at their own pace, and discover their own interests during play. Parents and caregivers can enjoy the collaborative environment for creative play and build relationships with neighbors at the same time.

This month we’re celebrating World Turtle Day with J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue. J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue saves exotic pets from fish to bearded dragons. They focus on finding suitable homes for surrendered pets and teaching communities about these amazing animals. Their mission is rooted in education and responsible pet ownership. They will be bringing a variety of live animals like turtles, snakes, frogs, and birds to learn about and meet on Saturday, May 25 from 10-11:30am. This program is free and open for all ages.

The Friends of the Library have a Book Sale coming up on Wednesday, May 22nd from 1-4pm. After you shop the deals, visit our Hickory meeting room to view the creative works of Sandy Blank who is our Artist of the Month for May. No matter how long you spend studying the books or Sandy’s art, you will always discover something new!

Last but not least, please save the date for our upcoming Celebration of Life and Library: 30 Years on Hill Street and the Legacy of Thomas E. Caestecker on Saturday, June 22 from 2-4 pm. All are welcome to take part in the open house celebration of the life of our founding donor and the magnificent library building he bestowed to the community three decades ago. No matter if this will be your first time in the Caestecker Public Library or your fiftieth, please come and be part of the wonderful story that’s taking place right here at 518 Hill Street in Green Lake. Light refreshments will be served along with a rich helping of memories. We would love to see you there!
