This warm weather brought visitors to the library that had biked to the area and decided to picnic in the sun on the bench in front of the library. The bistro sets will be out soon and we welcome more visitors to enjoy the space, fresh air, and Wi-Fi in front of the library.

March madness has a slightly different meaning in the library than it does for college basketball fans. For us the month begins with boxes and boxes of spring titles from favorite authors. Which means we have to find room for all these shiny new, in-demand stories. And that means we have to look hard at the books currently on our shelves, assess their continuing value, and move out those that don’t make the cut. Withdrawing books from the collection is always a little sad, but it is absolutely necessary to keep the library fresh, current, and meeting the needs of our readers. We went through the process in the children’s and teen sections earlier this year. Now it’s time to concentrate on the adult book shelves. While it’s inevitable that some favorites will be removed, I hope you will agree that the new titles are worthy of shelf space.

The withdrawn titles typically end up in the Friends book sales. These sales provide the Friends with the vast majority of their funding every year, money which comes back to the library in the form of programs and magazines and newspapers and yes, sometimes new books as well.  Think of it as the cycle of library book life.

If you happened to miss out on either the book donation or shopping at last week’s book sale, have no fear. We gratefully accept donations of gently used books, movies, and jigsaw puzzles all year. The next sale is coming up on Saturday, March 23 from 9am to 1pm and all donations and weeded items will be sorted and ready for you to peruse.

The next meeting of the Silent Readers Book Club is coming up on Wednesday, March 20, starting at 2pm. Bring your current book or magazine or grab one off the shelf before settling in for a solid hour of focused reading. At the end of the hour, attendees can socialize—or not! But be sure to mark your calendar to come again next month on April 17th.

The next two weeks of Thursday Movie Matinee films are The Color Purple on March 21st and Poor Things on March 28th.  Emma Stone recently won Best Actress for her role in Poor Things, and this is a perfect chance to see her performance yourself. We hope to see you soon!
